Car Care Spotlight: The DK 1505 Low-pressure Water System

There are still plenty of places in this great big country of ours where you can use all the water you need to wash your car. In some communities, it’s not even looked down upon to leave the hose running at full throttle on the lawn while you push the soap around your car.

But in some coastal areas of the nation, there’s real concern of wash water runoff reaching storm drains and eventually arriving in large bodies of water, including lakes, streams and oceans. As a result, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is actively enforcing the Clean Water Act of 1972, which prohibits water runoff.

Now you might say that your mobile auto detailing business only uses 100 percent biodegradable and environmentally friendly chemicals and cleaners — and we applaud you for that. Fact is, we produce a whole bunch of those eco-friendly auto detailing products ourselves here at Detail King.

If you’re fairly new to the auto detailing game, chances are you haven’t had a whole lot of experience working with clay bar products. Heck, you might even be under the impression that clay bars are a form of cleaner wax, and that would be an mistaken assumption.

Put simply, a clay bar is a clearcoat paint cleanser. Its task in life is to remove the pollutants that a regular car wash won’t. And it does this without the use of abrasives and chemicals that can and will thin your auto detailing customer’s clearcoat over time. Clay bars shear off the debris that is attached to the clearcoat paint — debris that includes mild acid rain spots, rail dust, bug bodies, brake dust, environmental fallout and paint overspray.

Aerosol or Liquid Window Cleaner?

Windows can be an auto detailer’s worst nightmare, what with all the streaks and hard-to-reach areas to contend with. Let’s face it. You can’t fake your way into a clean window. It’s either clean or it’s not, and giving it a wipe and a promise just doesn’t cut it.

That’s because windows are, well, as clear as glass. Any streak or mediocre effort on your part shows up on the not-so-finished product. Adding injury to insult, some streaks don’t appear until after the cleaning solution has dried, leaving you – the “professional” auto detailer – looking silly. Talk about product betrayal!
